Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a squad of talented engineers and play a pivotal role in driving our delivery and engineering excellence. You will balance technical leadership with people management, ensuring our teams are productive, motivated, and delivering high-quality solutions for both platform and client-facing projects.
This role is ideal for a technically proficient leader who thrives in a hands-on, collaborative environment and can lead multiple projects from concept to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Line Management & Team Growth
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of ~5 engineers.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning.
- Foster a culture of psychological safety, continuous improvement, and accountability.
2. Technical Project Leadership
- Act as Engineering Lead for multiple client projects
- Collaborate with Project Leads to refine user stories and create Statements of Work.
- Define and estimate deliverables and timelines based on technical and product realities.
- Create implementation roadmaps, manage dependencies, and track progress across sprints.
- Engage directly with clients when required to clarify expectations and communicate timelines.
- Work closely with designers and project leads to validate technical feasibility and align on delivery plans.
3. Agile Delivery & Engineering Process
- Run agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
- Track sprint progress, unblock the team, and ensure timely delivery of commitments.
- Own and improve team productivity metrics and help resolve bottlenecks in workflows.
4. Code Quality & Best Practices
- Conduct code reviews and enforce best practices in coding, testing, and documentation.
- Advocate for high engineering standards and scalable solutions.
5. Hands-On Engineering (20%)
- Contribute to codebases as needed, particularly in early-stage architecture or complex areas.
- Support the team with architectural guidance and technical problem-solving.
Technology Stack
Experience or familiarity with our core stack is essential:
- Frontend: React, Next.js, React Native
- Backend: Node.js, TypeScript
- Infrastructure: AWS (Lambda, SQS, API Gateway, RDS, CDK)
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience managing and mentoring software engineers.
- Strong background in full-stack development with an emphasis on scalable architecture.
- Experience leading delivery across multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong knowledge of agile methodologies and engineering productivity practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including client-facing experience.
- A bias for action, balanced with thoughtful risk management and pragmatism.
- Familiarity with Jira or similar tools for agile project tracking.
Nice to Have
- Previous experience in a SaaS business or working on B2B enterprise software.
- Experience with integrations and third-party dependency management.
- Understanding of loyalty, CRM, or customer engagement technologies.
